The Appian Way

The Appian Way is a platform to highlight the exceptional work of graduate students at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Role:

During my tenure as Editor-in-Chief of the Harvard Graduate School of Education's Appian Way magazine, I spearheaded a comprehensive UX design overhaul that transformed the publication from a collection of Google Share documents to a sophisticated printed journal, commemorating the master's program experience.

Needs Assessment and User Research:

I conducted extensive interviews with students and professors to understand their desires to preserve their projects and memories from the program. These insights were pivotal in shaping the content and design of the magazine, ensuring it resonated deeply with our audience.

Collaboration with Designers and Publishers:

I collaborated closely with designers and publishers, translating our community's vision into a tangible, high-quality printed journal. This collaboration was crucial in achieving a polished and professional final product that met the aesthetic and functional expectations of our readers.

Transformation and Implementation:

The initial iteration of Appian Way was a series of Google Share documents, which then evolved into a website. Recognizing the need for a more enduring and impactful format, I took the initiative to produce a printed journal. This transition involved meticulous planning and coordination to maintain the integrity of our content while enhancing its presentation.

Ongoing Advisory Role:

My involvement with Appian Way continues as a member of the advisory board, where I provide ongoing guidance to ensure the publication remains a valuable and cherished resource for future cohorts.
